Leanne Mya brought more than just nervousness and a microphone to the Britain’s Got Talent stage; she also carried the burden of a tragedy that everyone had heard about. Leanne, a Grenfell Tower fire survivor, told the judges that she had made the decision to do “something positive out of something negative,” not only for herself but also to demonstrate bravery to her kid.
She started singing Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down” when the music started. The mood shifted from the first line. Her voice was quiet but simultaneously full of sadness, courage, and pain. She received a resounding “Yes” from all four, advancing her to the next round.
