When Laura Bretan stepped onto the America’s Got Talent stage, she looked calm, shy, and far younger than the voice she was about to unleash. The Romanian-American soprano from Chicago was just 13 when she auditioned, and most people in the room had no idea they were about to witness one of the most unforgettable opera performances of the season.
Then she began to sing.
From the very first note, the atmosphere completely changed. Laura’s voice was soaring, pure, and unbelievably controlled, filling the theatre with the kind of operatic power that usually takes years and years to develop. The judges’ faces shifted instantly from curiosity to shock, and the crowd fell silent, completely pulled into the performance.
What made the moment so special was the contrast: such a young girl, standing there so quietly, then suddenly sounding like a world-class classical performer. It wasn’t just technically impressive — it felt emotional, elegant, and far beyond her age. That audition helped make Laura one of the standout young singers of AGT Season 11, and she later finished in sixth place after already winning Romania’s Got Talent in 2016.
