A Stranger Returned My Receipt—Then I Read the Message on the Back and Ran Outside

I accidentally left my receipt at the self-checkout machine, and I didn’t even realize it until a woman hurried after me. She handed it back with a friendly smile and said, “You dropped this.”

I thanked her, stuffed it in my bag, and went on my way, thinking it was just a small act of kindness from a stranger.

But when I got home and started unpacking my groceries, something caught my eye.

There was writing on the back of the receipt—messy and rushed, like she didn’t have much time. It read:

“Check your tires. Someone slashed mine in this parking lot.”

My heart instantly started pounding.

I dropped everything and ran outside to my car. I checked the tires, expecting to calm down and find nothing… but one of them was damaged. It had been slashed.

I felt sick. If she hadn’t warned me, I could’ve driven off, had a blowout, or gotten stranded somewhere unsafe.

I called the police right away. When they arrived and took a report, I found out I wasn’t the only one—there had been a string of similar tire-slashing incidents in the area recently.

To this day, I don’t know who that woman was, but I’ll never forget her. She didn’t just return a receipt—she may have prevented something much worse.
