In the Season 20 premiere of America’s Got Talent (AGT) on May 27, 2025, Sandy Larson, 70, of Knoxville, Tennessee, stunned the judges and the audience with a stunning sword act and belly dance. Simon Cowell showered him with praise, and he advanced to the next round.
Decades ago, Sandy, a former professional dancer, stepped away from the spotlight to raise her family. Now, she took advantage of the chance and went back on stage with Kara Kruse and Kippy Woloszyn, two dancers and lifetime friends. Sandy skillfully balanced swords while dancing in their rendition of Donna Summer’s “Last Dance,” which was a magnificent display of talent and unity.
The judges had differing opinions. Mel B voiced concerns and buzzed the act. However, Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, and Howie Mandel were happy. “I appreciated how your backup dancers weren’t the finest dancers in the world, but that’s what made it wonderful,” Cowell said in his praise of the performance. I was ecstatic. It was described by Vergara as “beautiful” and a “great way to finish today.”
One of the highlights of the premiere was Sandy’s audition, which perfectly reflected AGT’s mission to showcase a variety of skills and inspirational stories. The idea that it is never too late to fulfill one’s dreams is best illustrated by her comeback to the stage after many years.
