When Richard Goodall stepped onto the America’s Got Talent stage in 2024, he looked like an ordinary man with an extraordinary dream.
The 55-year-old school janitor from Terre Haute, Indiana, had spent more than two decades working at an elementary school, where students knew him for his friendly personality and love of singing.
But Richard had never imagined that his voice would one day be heard by millions of people.
His journey to AGT began when a video of him singing at school went viral, inspiring him to finally pursue his lifelong dream.
Despite being incredibly nervous, Richard gathered the courage to step onto one of the biggest stages in America.
For his audition, he chose “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey.
And the moment he started singing, everything changed.
His powerful, soulful voice immediately captured the audience’s attention. The judges were visibly surprised as the humble janitor delivered a performance worthy of a professional rock singer.
As Richard reached the song’s soaring chorus, the entire theater erupted with excitement.
By the final note, all four judges were on their feet, giving him a standing ovation.
But the biggest surprise was still to come.
Heidi Klum was so moved by his performance that she pressed the GOLDEN BUZZER, sending Richard directly to the live shows.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Richard struggled to hold back his tears as golden confetti rained down around him.
His incredible journey didn’t end there.
Against all expectations, Richard Goodall went on to WIN America’s Got Talent 2024, proving that it’s never too late to follow your dreams.
From cleaning school hallways to becoming a national television champion, Richard’s story remains one of AGT’s most inspiring success stories.
