She Looked Like a Sweet Schoolgirl… Then “Turn My Swag On” Turned X Factor Upside Down

When 16-year-old Cher Lloyd walked onto The X Factor UK stage in 2010, she looked tiny, shy, and a bit fragile – just another nervous teenager facing four judges and a huge crowd. Her soft voice and quiet answers didn’t exactly scream “future star,” and you could feel the audience expecting a cute, safe pop performance.

Then she said she’d be singing Keri Hilson’s version of “Turn My Swag On” – and everything changed. The beat dropped, and this “sweet schoolgirl” suddenly flipped into full swagger mode. Her delivery was razor-sharp, part singing, part rapping, with bags of attitude and rhythm. She stalked the stage like she owned it, hitting notes, flipping flows, and throwing in those now-iconic facial expressions that had everyone screaming.

The judges were visibly stunned. Cheryl was grinning from ear to ear, Simon looked genuinely impressed, and the audience went from polite to wild in seconds. By the end of the performance, people were on their feet, and Cher had gone from “nervous kid” to the girl who just delivered one of the most unforgettable first auditions in X Factor history.

She walked on looking like a quiet schoolgirl. She walked off as the swagger-packed teen who proved that sometimes the biggest attitude comes in the smallest package.
