😨😲 A policeman knocked on the door after my cat brought home babies from an unknown location. My heart stopped when he said that.
Quietly, that night started. Lili’s voice abruptly came from the living room as I was washing laundry:
— Mom! Once more, she’s got something in her mouth!
— Who? — I stopped in my tracks.
— Marsa! A puppy! One more!
I couldn’t believe what I saw as I rushed to the window: my tabby cat was crossing the yard with a small black package between her teeth. Four identical ones were already in a woven basket in the room’s corner; they were small, had soft, velvety sides, and their eyes were tightly closed.
Marsa placed the new one beside them with care, licked it tenderly, and curled up around them as though to shield them from the outside world.
I was baffled as to where she was locating these puppies. She was delivering them one by one, but why?
There was a strong knock on the door throughout the day, so loud that the glass in the frame shook.
Lili gripped to my hand as though feeling something unfavorable, and I froze.
When I opened the door, a police officer and Mrs. Miller, our neighbor who always notices everything, were standing there. She had a gloomy face like a thunder cloud.
Without spending time on greetings, the officer said, “Do you have a cat?”
— Yes — I gave a cautious nod. — What took place?
After observing me for a considerable amount of time, he whispered:
If so, you’d better take a seat.
Even though I had no idea what I was going to hear, my heart missed a beat and a chill went down my spine.
A policeman knocked on the door after my cat brought home babies from an unknown location.
The chilly mug of tea chilled my fingers as I sat down mechanically on the sofa’s edge.
While if sensing that the talk was about her, Marsa quietly emerged from the kitchen and sat right in front of the policeman, her green, unblinking eyes fixed on him while Lili pressed close to me.
He started by saying, “This morning, a… abandoned doghouse was discovered in the neighboring yard.” The puppies had vanished.
— And? — — my voice faltered, betraying my intentions.
A policeman knocked on the door after my cat brought home babies from an unknown location.
He hesitated, seemingly weighing his options, before continuing, “The owner says she saw your cat carrying them away one by one.”
With a sigh, the neighbor lowered her gaze and uttered:
— I own those puppies. This morning, their mother passed away. Additionally, your Marsa
My cat was purring quietly and holding the babies in her paws when I stared at her in bewilderment.
I apologize for any confusion; she must have acted in that manner since we had found other homes for the puppies, but she still required a motherly sense. I will now bring them back.
A policeman knocked on the door after my cat brought home babies from an unknown location.
After observing the serene scene of Marsa lovingly licking and nursing the puppies, the neighbor stood for a while and continued:
Allow them to remain with you. It’s better for everyone, in my opinion.
When I nodded, Marsa pressed her new tiny ones closer to her as though she understood every word.
