Joel Goncalves, 15, appeared like any other anxious adolescent when he took the stage of The X Factor Australia. He acknowledged that he had previously only performed in front of 12 to 20 people, but now he was facing four frightening judges and a sizable arena.
Joel picked Michael Jackson’s “The Girl Is Mine,” which is a really daring tune for someone his age. His anxieties vanished the moment he began to sing. His voice was soulful, silky, and eerily similar to that of a young Michael Jackson; in a matter of seconds, the audience changed from being inquisitive to yelling.
You could watch the judges’ mouths drop as the performance progressed. They were now hanging on to every note, even tho one of them acknowledged that they hadn’t anticipated that voice from the timid youngster who entered the platform trembling. The crowd was on its feet by the last chorus, and Joel left with four resounding “yes” votes and a standing ovation.
Not only did the audition warm everyone’s hearts, but it also set Joel on the path to a successful career. He eventually put out his own music under the name Joel Adams, demonstrating that this wasn’t merely a one-night event but rather the start of something much greater.
