Some of the most memorable moments from talent shows aren’t about perfect performances, but rather about having the guts to keep going. That’s precisely what occurred when 16-year-old Breanna Lee Wilson sang Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colours” on Australia’s Got Talent.
Breanna’s anxiety overcame her a few minutes into the audition. She stopped singing, fighting back tears, certain that she had lost her opportunity. However, the crowd, host Ricki-Lee, and judges supported her and urged her to take a big breath and try again rather than calling off the audition.
Breanna took the stage again, full with confidence, and gave an amazing performance. When she openly honored her Indigenous Australian background by singing a portion of the song in the Wemba Wemba language, her moving performance gained even more impact. There was not a dry eye in the theater after the moving performance, which received a standing ovation.
David Walliams, who was deeply impressed by Breanna’s talent and tenacity, hit the Golden Buzzer, causing golden confetti to fall and guaranteeing her a spot in the semifinals. Her audition swiftly turned into one of the season’s most inspirational moments, demonstrating that true courage isn’t about never being afraid but rather about having the fortitude to try again.
