He Was Just an Audience Member… Then Asked for One Shot and Got the Golden Buzzer

On this episode of Britain’s Got Talent 2025, nobody expected the most emotional audition of the night to come from someone sitting in the audience. During a break, a man named Max Fox stood up and asked Simon Cowell if he could audition — explaining that he’d been trying to get in front of the judges for 19 years and never made it through the usual process.

At first, the judges were skeptical. They double-checked that it wasn’t a setup, that he’d really just gotten lucky with his seat that day. Max admitted he was nervous but said this might be his only chance, so he was going to grab it with both hands. When the stage was cleared and the lights came up, he walked out from the crowd, took the microphone… and chose the ultimate statement song: “My Way.”

From the first note, it was clear this wasn’t a random karaoke moment. His voice was rich, emotional and completely locked into the classic. You could hear every year of waiting and wanting in the way he delivered the lyrics. The studio audience, who had just watched him come out of nowhere, fell silent, then started cheering as he built to the big final chorus. Judges who’d expected a fun gimmick found themselves genuinely moved instead.

When he finished, the room erupted into a standing ovation. The panel praised not just his voice, but his courage to stand up in the middle of the crowd and ask for a chance after nearly two decades of trying. Then Amanda Holden did something no one saw coming — she slammed her Golden Buzzer, showering Max in gold confetti and turning a spontaneous “why not?” moment into the dream he’d waited 19 years for.

Max Fox arrived at BGT as just another face in the crowd. He walked out as a Golden Buzzer act — living proof that sometimes you really do get one shot, and if you’re brave enough to take it, everything can change.
