13 years ago the owners of Territorio de Zaguates in Costa Rica decided to help stray dogs making their life easier and better.
Lya Battle and Alvaro Saumet opened a no-kill dog sanctuary that was truly heaven on earth for dogs.
Costa Rica had 2 million stray dogs who didn’t deserve street life. Gradually Lya and Alvaro brought more and more dogs and kept them all in a small backyard.
Soon it was impossible for all of them and Lya tried to find a proper place for all of them. Se decided to move to her grandparent’s territory which was 378 acres. As her grandparents also loved animals she thought that building a sanctuary there will be an honoring job.
Lya’s husband claimed that the most difficult part was feeding them as the number of dogs would reach up to 1000.
